It’s October and that means (at least) two things:
1.) Halloween is approaching.
2.) Nights are getting longer.
So as fall and spooky stuff appear, I give you nine picture booksย for night owls.
ย
Flashlight by Lizi Boyd.
(I received a review copy of Flashlight.)
The Midnight Library by Kazuno Kohara.
The Insomniacsย by Karina Wolf and The Brothers Hilts.
Hannah’s Night by Komako Sakai.
The Dark by Lemony Snicket and Jon Klassen.
Chengdu Could Not, Would Not, Fall Asleepย by Barney Saltzberg.
Little Owl’s Night by Divya Srinivasan.
Switching on the Moonย collected by Jane Yolen and Andrew Fusek Peters, illustrated by G. Brian Karas.
Run Home, Little Mouse by Britta Teckentrup.
Enjoy these books at bedtime and don’t miss the full moon tomorrow night!
Interesting. I didn’t know that Daniel Handler had written a picture book. I think my favorite cover is The Insomniacs. ๐ That one might do ME some good.
Haha. THE DARK is masterful. Really. And INSOMNIACS is a stylish AND satisfying story!
This is a great list for our house!!!
I am such a night owl, these are totally up my alley!! I feel like Chengdu right now… ๐
Oh no! Wishing you sweet dreams soon. ๐
crap. i think i missed the full moon. although i was weirdly wide awake around 1130pm and had insomnia and i don’t usually. must’ve been the MOON! um, CHENGDU looks CUTE!
I’ve lost track of how long I’ve been waiting for Flashlight at our library. Since it’s a new book, it’s taking awhile for my turn to come up. In the meantime, I’m going to check out some of these other books!
Amy, I totally know how you feel! I’m grateful for the hold system at my library and yet sometimes I feel I CAN’T wait any longer for that new title! ๐
I’m loving your site. I picked it up off of 12 x 12’s Facebook page. I would have loved to see you add in SWITCH ON THE NIGHT by Ray Bradbury. It reminds me of Lemony Snicket’s book THE DARK. Thanks for adding to my list.
Thank you! I don’t know that one so thank you for the recommendation and I’ll check it out!! Wow.
