Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle.
It’s no wonder this was a 2013 Goodreads Choice Award nominee.
A girl. A flamingo. A dance. A friendship.
This magical book manages to capture all that. And without words. It’s also very wonderfully pink, in the most non-sacchirine way, especially since the backgrounds are so bare and white save for the frame of pink blossoms.
Behold, the balletic flamingo.
And adorable Flora, following along.
The ups and downs of any blossoming duet.
One of the secrets of this book’s magic is the fold-down cut outs on many pages, which capture movement and character responses. But you’ll have to see that for yourself!
Thanks to Chronicle Books for the images!
